Consistency - What is consistency????? This is how it is defined from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/consistency.
con·sist·en·cy [kuhn-sis-tuhn-see] –noun, plural -cies.
1. a degree of density, firmness, viscosity, etc.: The liquid has the consistency of cream.
Nope that's not it.
2. steadfast adherence to the same principles, course, form, etc.: There is consistency in his pattern of behavior. This could be it...... getting closer.
3. agreement, harmony, or compatibility, esp. correspondence or uniformity among the parts of a complex thing: Could be - does this relate to a player on the team?
4. the condition of cohering or holding together and retaining form; solidity or firmness. This could be it too. How does this relate to a team???
Other languages have the word also:
French: cohérence
German: die Beschaffenheit
Czech: důslednost, souvislost
Spanish: consistencia
Russian: последовательность
Korean: 일관성
Swedish:konsekvens, följdriktighet
You get the picture.
What does it take to get everyone consistent?
Let's start with the mental part.
Are we mentally ready for today's game? Are we eager to play? Can you be ready to play your very best even if you do not start? Can we envision how we are going to play today?
Do you CARE if we win or lose?
I care. Someone once said "it's not if you win or lose but how you play the game"
That is true. So true.
I'd be happy to lose to a team that has better skill, more desire and just plain hustles than to lose to team that because THEY had more desire to win and hustled on each play - even though we had the superior skills.
For the varsity to lose 3-1 again and the jv to lose 6-1 AGAIN there was an awful lot of chatter and banter on the bus ride home.
Ask yourself these questions:
Did I play with everything I had?
Did I help my teammates by talking to them while I was on the field?
Did I listen and do what my fellow players told me? Do I trust them?
Did I support them by either checking to or going to space when they had the ball?
Did I always give 3 in support? Or just when coach hollered about it?
Did I just stand there and watch when my team had the ball?
Did I look for cover when they had the ball or did I just stand there and watch?
Did I step to every single ball? Or did I wait for the ball to come to me?
Did I take that extra step to win the ball?
Did I go up for that air ball even though the other player was a foot taller than me? Or did I watch because he was taller than me?
Did I watch as my opponent won the ball and I reacted?
Did I twist or turn away from a shot or pass because I was afraid to get hit with the ball?
Did I know who was around me and where they were all of the time?
Did I "do" an 180 when I got into trouble? Or did I just kick the ball away?
Do you have pride?
Are you proud of the way you played yesterday?
This will be read at practice today.
You decide.
League record 2-7-1
Overall 2-8-1
