Day 2

Good turn out for day 2. Missing only one player. Don't know if they quit or not. Lots of players getting cramps today. Some I expect others I did not. It's refreshing and a relief to have a trainer on site for practices. The trainer has helped because of the pulls and cramping. It will probably end next week because of football. Some of the players are starting to shine. Good example is an average player playing with a "star" varsity player and they were playing up to that level also. Some players still need to be stoked in order to get up to their level. Liked a couple of the freshman's' play better today than yesterday. They could make it hard when it comes to choosing Varsity players. I will start grouping them together by skill more beginning of Thursday. Up to now it has been random. Players that I'm not sure about will get placed with the better players one time and then with average players the next to see if they can:
a. Be consistent in their play.
b. Continue to play a higher level.
c. Show leadership and help the other players.
All in all - this will be a interesting year.
What we did today:
Warm up with support (NO support=more penalty exercises)
Sprints.
Passing and shooting.
Running with purpose. Juggling.
Make it - take it. Teams that "won" were supportive, talked to each other and listened. The teams that lost, did not move, did not talk or if they did - no one listened. I did see one player (a freshmen) try so hard that he felt that he had to do everything by himself. Question is - was that good for him or bad for his teammates?
Dribbling and fakes: Some still can not use the left foot.
Scrimmage: I got a better look at some players. Also saw that we are trying to move the ball in the middle of the field. Some are STILL trying to do this!! Why??? Had a couple of crosses - but the player that did at least one is moving be a sand flea. Will the others learn from him?
Reminders:
NO Practice on WED 15 August.
Check your email or this blog to see if there will be practice on Thursday morning. I will have sent or posted the notice around 9:00pm on Wednesday.
Study and learn the Daily Soccer Drills.
